Ranch Stories

Run Johnny Run!

One of our jobs on the ranch is being part of the mowing crew. Normally we do the job with one riding mower and two weed-eaters. This has worked pretty well for Cate and me for the past few summers. This weekend, we had some extra members in our crew, our Dad, and our brother Henry.  With these extra crew members, the old, yet spontaneously faithful zero turn mower, the John Deere mower, got put to use as well. For the first time, I got to run Johnny and he does take a little bit of getting used too. He’s kind of an old coot and has a mind of his own.  But, once you’re a Johnny fan, you are a Johnny fan forever. I realized, that I kind of needed to sit at an angle to make sure the arm handles were in place. Also, I realized that Johnny decides the course of steering. When I pushed the right handle, I really needed to look out immediately on the left. When I pushed the left handle, I really needed to look out big time on the right. When I pushed both at the same time (expecting to go straight ahead) I really didn’t have any way to know which way Johnny was headed. Yet, by the end of the day, Johnny and the entire mowing crew delivered another quality job on the ranch.

Look at the size of that thing!!! Just a couple of passes around my yard and you’d be done!👍

Emma that’s awesome! The Beasley’s have a little Johnny that looks similar to your Johnny. We are in the process of transferring Carson from little Johnny to Mr. Stihl and Caden to little Johnny. Mr. Stihl is our weed eater, edger and brush cutter and demands a little more respect. Caden has been mowing some this Spring on little Johnny and is doing a good job after I mow around a few things. Thanks for the post! Keep em’ coming!

I appreciate the protective eye wear! And your uncle would be so proud, as we only go Green! 🙂
