City Stories

A Gem in Guthrie

Hello again, friends!! For those who are not out of school yet, hang in there, because summer is fast approaching! But for others, like us, summer has just begun! (Insert confetti here!) However, something that comes with homeschooling is that school is never quite complete. Well, that’s true in our case as least. Our mom decided that this summer we would conquer our Oklahoma History credit. So, Saturday, we drove over to Guthrie, Oklahoma to see the city of Oklahoma’s first state capital and partake in some delicious treats at Missy’s bakery! Yet, our favorite part of the trip was a spontaneous stop at a cowboy boot shop where we met this kind cowboy Raymond Dorwart.

He went above and beyond the rules of hospitality and created beautiful leather bookmarks from pieces of colorful leather for us.

This kind cowboy is a man of his word and believes firmly in the covenant of a handshake. Our encounter with him was a beautiful reminder that people still hold true to truth, goodness, and beauty.

If you ever want a new pair of personalized boots, go to “Dorwart Cowboy Boots” in downtown Guthrie! You will have a wonderful experience with a wonderful gentleman. He sure made our “summer school” much more interesting and entertaining.

P.S. He also told us that in Wyoming, girls who work as cowhands on the ranch are called “cowboy girls.” We thought that was pretty fun. 🙂
